A Christmas Bonus!!!
The most delightful part of dog ownership is the puppy training part when your dog is a youthful and eager to please puppy dog. The puppy stage is a good time to start with the most important part - establishing who is master alpha dog by gentle training techniques.
Good dog training techniques are vital to a long happy life with your new puppy that is fresh and open to the world and its many splendors.
Training your dog to perform tricks is also fun and here is a free lesson for beginners in an easy step by step formula. Lesson 1.
Training dogs should begin at the early stages as early as 7 weeks of age.
As with children, we start establishing boundaries of acceptable manners at a young age and so it is with dogs and puppies.
Dog Obedience Training Courses:
-The best choice is to take a dog Obedience Training Course and points to remember are:
-Keep an open mind about training methods which are changing with time.
-Follow your coach’s instructions as they are the professionals.
-Practice the exercises at home for one half an hour each day which will reinforce the lessons learned and establishes consistency in your dog’s routine.
-Be devoted and positive about training as this will be picked up by your dog that whom ever holds the other end of the leash is the master to follow.
You have seen the Dog Whisperer on his own television series or watched Barbara Woodhouse who trained dogs in the seventies, or purchased a video on training techniques or methods. Training methods are all different and what works on one dog may not work with another. Dog behavior training is also another way to tackle training your dog depending on the problem at hand. Dove Cresswell has an online training
program you can do from your computer and is a gentle and effective training including teaching your puppy new tricks.
Toilet Training a Puppy:
The most immediate training obviously to a new dog owner is that the puppy learns to toilet outside the house.
Training came very quickly with my dog at that age of seven weeks, especially toilet training. After a few minor accidents I took up the messes with paper towels and took it outside along with the dog. I put the paper towel where I wanted her to go in her special place, and left it there for the next time.
Toilet training is also accomplished by taking your dog outside:
1) Every 3-4 hours.
2) After a meal.
3) Upon rising in the morning.
4) Before bedtime at night.
Number 3 and 4 can be accomplished on the daily walks and 1 and 2 during the day after mealtimes.
Feeding a puppy three times a day at first with highly nutritious and natural dog food as they are very energetic as puppies. Later that can be cut down to feeding twice a day as it the puppy continues to go through the growing stages.
Luckily and because of the breed I chose my dog was toilet trained within a few weeks, she was very smart at it also. She went to the door when she wanted to go outside which is what you want your dog to accomplish.
The most difficult obstacle was getting up the stairs which were very steep for her so I started walking her one step at a time, each day for a few steps. Gradually as she grew more muscles in her legs she could accomplish more stairs and grew more confident. The going up the stairs were less daunting than coming down which she feared when she looked down the long stairway.
Well there are more tips on training and exercises for your dog in coming articles.
If you are looking for a puppy or to adopt a puppy from a rescue shelter, learn all you can about the breed and the history of the dog. If you make the decision to become a dog owner, be willing to take the time to do it right and take a training course.
A good experienced licensed Dog Trainer can have your dog trained in less time than you can if you trained your dog yourself and with less stress. Be patient with your dog and you will experience less behavioral issues and a happier time with your new dog.
This will ensure training will be easy, and you will both enjoy your new life together. Your teacher will give you the knowledge you need to become the Alpha dog in your own home.
