Kidney problems in pets are far easier to prevent than to cure and as some breeds are susceptible to kidney disease.
Chronic Renal failure ( CRF) is cats is also known as Canine Kidney Failure (CIN) in dogs is easier to prevent than to cure once established. As a pet ages these illnesses can take hold simply by the aging process as with humans.
Chronic kidney problems are a result of external toxins or poisons of some type and can go undetected for long periods of time. The job of kidneys is to filter out the impurities in our bodies as with out pets and these impurities come from: food, air, water, and toxic atmospheres.
One of the key symptoms to watch out for is: unusual thirst and frequent urinating of your pet.
The reason for that is that it takes more water from the body to flush out the toxins so your dog’s body uses more fluids to accomplish the task.
Kidney failure is difficult to treat because it is a slow process that is not easily observed and can go un noticed for years.
Other symptoms are poor appetite, vomiting, a strong urine odour in the mouth and weight loss.
Nutritional Therapies:
Here we look at your dog’s diet which you must address and buying organic is the best solution for a high quality diet.
A low protein diet such as: white or brown rice, millet, or other barley type grains mixed with meat or chicken, parsley, carrots, garlic powder, unrefined olive oil, or sesame oil. Always also add some digestive enzymes for proper assimilation of the foods you buy.
A good multiple vitamin that contains Vitamin C, B, and minerals will also help your dog heal a kidney disorder, as well as calcium lactate or gluconate. Do not buy supplements that contain phosphorus.
Magnesium is also a heart friendly vitamin to add to your dog or cat’s diet and can be found in many supplements mixed with calcium. There are a few natural therapies for dog or cat kidney diseases.
Liquid vitamins are easier to administer by just adding to the food bowl as you can adjust it for your dogs weight. Always consult a local holistic veterinarian in your area for counsel on these supplements.
Always consult a regular veterinarian to do blood and urine tests to determine the stage of this disease by studying the amount of protein excreted and creatinine values.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids from marine fish has been shown to slow the progression of kidney disease and added to Vitamin E they work very well together.
Herbal Cleanses and Therapies:
A lower protein, lower phosphorus and low salt diet is probably needed to restore health in a dog or cat with kidney disease. Again consult your veterinarian for specific diets that work well including plant based proteins.
If you were to use organic chicken, beef or meats which is considered a HIGH QUALITY protein, it would be far better than a low-protein diet.
Here is were diets are most important and for you to investigate the food labels that you are buying for your pet. For instance a dry kibble would dehydrate your pet faster, and this could become chronic. An inappropriate diet is one of the major causes of kidney failure in pets.
Herbals for Kidney Cleansing are:
Cleavers and corn silk.
Parsley tea
Grated parsnips mixed with honey and shaped into balls.
Small amounts of wheat grass juice.
Green Juice Powders help to heal and clean the system.
Marshmallow teas ( ½ teaspoon to 1 tablespoon- add to food twice a day.
Brush your dog or cat’s coat every day to stimulate circulation and bathe using gentle soaps rinsing with chamomile tea.
Acupuncture and Homeopathy are also recommended for kidney diseases and you can consult your local health food store for these ingredients as well as a local Holistic Veterinarian.
