Stem Cells Saves Boy’s Eyesight
Jun 23rd, 2008 by Teri
It was not an easy decision to send Tre for treatment and the costs were astronomical at $ 43,000.00 but how do you put a price on a child’s eyes. Tre was sent to China for an experimental stem cell procedure and three weeks later his vision is miraculously improved to 20/200. The treatment process consisted of four stem cell intravenous injections and a spinal catheter.
Quoted from Mrs. Burgos “It probably exceeded my expectations” and “I never expected it to be this much this fast”. “It is just really amazing watching him see something for the first time” she added.
Stem cell treatment for human use is not approved in the US, and it needs to be. Duke University is researching stem cells and many other medical research teams are now conducting research, however there needs to be more for both people and pets. Families now can save the stem cells from the umbilical cord at birth and more are now informed that it can save your babies lives and good health.
This summer bone marrow transplants are also becoming available for dogs at Washington State University which have been used with humans for the past 20 years saving thousands of lives.
Stem cell transplants and babies cord blood stem cells offer a more immediate and economical method to prevent some types of diseases and may even be used to treat cancer if we continue the research. The lack of side effects such as surgeries, and pain are eliminated with stem cell transplants.

So if you have a dog, cat or pet and might have a child on the way consider banking the cord stem cells for the future, it just might produce a miracle in your child’s life as it has with dogs.

What an amazing story Teri. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Yes it is Rita and I found it the same. I am becoming more interested in the massive possibilities of stem cell research to heal
most of what ails us all, and our pets. Thanks for your comment.
Teri
This is definitely an area where more research would give potentially massive returns. I guess like most “unknowns” the reality is clouded by uninformed opinions and much will need to be done to convince the public that such treatment is ethical.
It boggles the mind Hype. Using the bodies own stem cells eliminates rejection problems as with transplants. With cord blood usually it would be tossed in the garbage, and as in Tre’s case it saved his eyesight. Its a win win for everyone without the use of drugs, surgeries, pain and suffering which are a thing of the past if we only put our research into stem cells. The possibilities of healing almost every sickness, and disease known to mankind and the animal kingdom - I think is worth every penny. Let us see if the politicians really get it right this time. Thanks for your comment.

Wow Teri,
What a wonderful article. Like with many things though, if only we could get the politicians to move on the important issues. That too would be a miracle.
Thank you for your comment Barbara. Yes if we can proceed with stem cell research many diseases would not plague us in the future and that requires us to support politicians that promote good health not back corporations from making money on people’s sickness.

I think it’s really one of the worst things that can happen to a ca human being - loosing your eyesight. Especially at this young age… I cannot even imagine that would happen to anyone I know or me personally. Every operation like this can be considered as a huge success for the man kind! Now if only we had no hypocrats and no wars…and now wars that kill millions, our civilisation as a whole would be so much happier.
