Dog Food is it really New and Improved?
Aug 7th, 2008 by Teri
You may have noticed a major pet food company Pedigree has come up with some new soothing commercials for puppy food, and the new product is called Healthy Start.
Now I was so wondering how they can tell it is improved, I mean does the dog tell you its better than the last stuff it was fed yesterday. The commercial goes on to say that who would feed their dog artificial colors and flavors and I have to say that no one I know would do that intentionally speaking of course.
After all we know that artificial colors are added so the dog will enjoy it more or it tastes better?
Some of the other ingredients I am sad to report are the same, the same BHA /BHT a known carcinogenic preservative, the same chicken by products, animal fats, sugary corn, salt, the same crude fiber, and crude proteins. The proteins are still from the same refuse from the slaughter and meat processing plants, as before and still we have gluten in pet foods which causes allergies in pets.
Adding some forms of vitamins does not off set the bad ingredients in these new and improved pet foods, it just does not cover the main ingredients which can be harmful to your pet. Another dog food ingredient is corn which as we know contains sugar and this may be the cause for the increase in dog diabetes which is becoming an epidemic as is pet cancer.
Well we will give them a score of zero for trying to improve dog food ingredients however; hopefully new government regulations will put an end to this madness. But possibly not because there are no regulations on pet foods in North America which means anything goes as far as ingredients. Since tainted melamine pet food recall of March 2007 no laws have been put into place and no regulations or inspections have been introduced and in effect. Some of these tainted products even made their way into the human food chain as reported by the Food and Drug Administration’s newest update of February 6, 2008. You can read more on that here at:
FDA Tainted Animal Feed Update
So, next time you see the commercial on that little puppy that is chomping down on the new and improved dog food you see today head for the holistic shelf in your dog food store. You also have to understand they starve the dogs first before the commercial so the dog really seems to enjoy its food.
There are many alternatives to this type of fake food that actually contains real food, healthy ingredients with no artificial colors, preservatives, dyes, and food that cannot even be listed as fit for animal consumption.
