It is well known, cats have an absolutely amazing tongue that they use to keep their coat clean and beautiful. Sometimes, especially in what is called “the shedding season”, or for cats with very long or thick fur, your cats own efforts may need some help. Getting an occasional bath can remove a lot of loose hair, which spells less hairballs, and less cat hair on your “fur”niture. It also keeps mats and tangles at bay while keeping kitty looking magnificent.
No more cargo compartment for Fido -no not when your pet can travel on Pet Airways the new pet airlines specifically for pets. This airline with transport your cat or dog to its destination in warmth and comfort with friendly flight attendants who are pet friendly and attentive to your pets needs.
For years pet owners fretted about traveling with pets on airplanes when they get put into a cage and into the cargo compartment where the temperatures can be very cold since the cargo area is not heated. Many pets have made traumatic trips in the past but now with Pet Airlines -it is a whole new world in pet travel.
Have you ever seen a pet dog in their traveling crate go around and around in the luggage carousel waiting to be picked up by their owners who are probably waiting at the other end of the airport? The CEO and President of Pet Airways is David Wiesel and he says “ you see on Pet Airways, your pets aren’t packages, they are pawsengers.”
Pets that travel on the other commercial airlines are often traumatized for life from the experience and can have a heart attack or die but pet owners have not had any choices with how their pets are handled. If we were to track a pet on a regular commercial airline especially when they are handled like baggage-not many pet owners would want to repeat the experience.
The service starts with you dropping off your pet at the Pet Lounge and they get taken to the pet washroom before takeoff for one last washroom break. Each pet gets a pet attendant for the flight and you can track your pet’s progress on the Pet Tracker which is an online tracking system of the flight. See this at: www.PetAirways.com
The first flight takes off on July 14th for the big Pet Airlines takeoff where all pets will travel in the body of the plane -not the cargo area. Currently flight schedules are:
The company based in Florida has scheduled flights from New York to and from Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver or Washington D.C. Now the FAA leave the pet travel to the airlines and their rules are that your pet -container and all must fit under a seat, which is not a very big space.
Here are more rules and regulations of the Other Airlines :
a limit on the number of pets in the cabin
a limit on the number of pets that may accompany you on the airplane
a requirement that your pet be harmless, inoffensive and odorless
a requirement that you be able to produce a recently issued health certificate for your pet
The other Airlines will only accept one or two pets per flight and if they are booked for the flight you want -your out of luck and your pet stays home. Not very pet friendly are they and certainly not very comfortable even for small pets and you can’t bring a large dog like a Golden or a German Sheppard.
The SPCA of San Francisco found that there were 2 million animals transported by the airlines each year that 5,000 of them are seriously injured. Most animals die of suffocation, overheated or overly cold cargo areas with poor ventilation. In some cases if the pet is near a motor as was the case with one airline-the animal got burnt.
The other problem is that veterinarians tell you to give your dog a sedative for the duration of the trip and that in itself can be harmful. With Pet Airways your pet has an attendant to take care of it and keep it occupied for the trip instead of no one looking after it.
Your pet will be offered food and drink for the trip depending on the length of the trip and we don’t really know what movie is playing but we hope the line up is something like this:
Pet Airways -National Flights for Pets Only-Doghealth1.com
Marley and Me
Top Dog – the Dog version of Top Gun
Reservoir Dogs Official Trailer
The Lightening Warrior-starring Rin Tin Tin
Scooby-Doo
101 Dalmatians
Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Snow Dogs-plays in December
Benji
White Fang
The Shaggy Dog
I can really see this airline-taking off-pardon the pun but this is a great idea for pet owners who travel and coupled with Pet Hotels- its a dog’s life. Oh by the way don’t try and sneak on board with Fido because -no humans are allowed in the baggage compartment. So fly your pet on Pet Airways-the only way to travel for your pet. Book your next flight on Pet Airways and rest assured your pet will travel safely with a flight attendant an arrive without trauma to its destination.

Is your dog throwing up or getting diarrhea lately and you do not know why you may wish to help your dog get healthier. The cause of the problem maybe dog food related allergies or sensitivities. Dogs that are getting the proper nutrition do not have allergies and if they do -the remedy is in proper nutritious foods. Diet related problems often go away or they linger depending on the quality of food. If you want your dog to live longer-think about organic foods only.
The Benefits of Organic Food for Your Dog
1) Lower vet bills-this is a major expense for pet owners into the thousands of dollars even for simple treatments.
2) Your dog will be healthier, happier and more energetic during its lifetime.
3) Your dog will definitely live longer and with fewer ailments.
4) You will be able to enjoy your pet more when it is not sick or diseased.
5) You will save your dog from pain and suffering from poor food nutrition.
Symptoms of Dog Food Allergies
1) Scratching and sores.
2)Vomiting and indigestion.
3) Hives and itching all over.
4) Fatigue and tired looking.
5) Diarrhea and runny stools.
6) Gas and intestinal gurggling.
To Stop Your Pet’s Allergies
1) Stop feeding your dog what you are feeding it.
2) Switch to an organic only brand and make sure it is certified organic from a reputable company.
4) Give your dog “unflavored-low calorie” yogurt. A couple of tablespoons daily to 1/2 cup for large dogs.
5) Give your dog clean, purified water -not tap water-it is full of chemicals and drugs.
The best probiotics is either yogurt or lactobacillus acidophilus tablet -same as what people take -can be given to a dog that is suffering from diarrhea, which depletes the dog’s body of the friendly bacteria which digests food. Friendly bacteria in probiotics is the beneficial part of the dog’s flora and fauna or intestinal environment that helps the dog digest and remove waste.
The best probiotics are the organics of course with no chemical additives that are harmful. The probiotic advantage is that it will balance the dog’s gut and digestive system and bring it back to normal while replenishing the friendly bacteria which is so important to a healthy dog. A probiotic bacteria yogurt can refresh the gut, reduce symptoms and pain and clean out the bad stuff so to speak.
Pet probiotics works for cats too as cats get feline vomiting and also have food allergies when throwing up their food. Today’s pet foods contain Genetically Modified Foods or GMO’s including corn, soy and some other ingredients in the commercial pet food industry -anything goes into pet foods. Since there are no regulations against harmful ingredients, you will stress out your pet feeding these foods to them. Especially the dog liver which functions as the garbage cleaner as it cleanses the blood of harmful chemicals. When the dog consistently digests bad dog food the dog’s liver is overtaxed and overburdened which in the lifetime of a dog is difficult to repair.

Sometimes you just have to get a chuckle from cats, even though we are thoroughly vested in our dogs -there is still something curious about a curious cat especially when its reading the New York Times.
With newspapers going by the way of dinosaurs and TV networks on the brink of becoming laughable journalism thanks to the sponsors of advertising or the Captains of The Industry of Spin-it is refreshing to see a cat making use of reading the newspaper instead of depositing its’ remains on it.

” One Nation Under Dog” is a dog book written by Michael Schaffer is a book every dog lover should read! As Michael puts us into the world of dog – and all the trappings of pet care we can see how this domesticated animal has turned into a family member. As I began reading about their “first dog” Murphy I recalled how I got my latest addition to the family and the joy of having a dog.
Murphy’s story is one of the doting parents who “for the love of dog” we follow in the same footsteps as Mike and his wife travel through the world of a 43 billion dollar industry growing into the next century. The history of dogs is particularly amusing and an eye opener for dog owners on what to look out for -in case you fall into the trappings of dog ownership.
Besides the dog lattes, Bully Sticks and puppy birthday parties – the upscale urban dog today the author takes us through pet bereavement to the pet food industry. The care and feeding of Fido is explained by looking at the stories of obsessions and the changes in our culture from politics to social morals and finally the economics of pet ownership.
If you own a dog you owe it to yourself to get this book and avoid your dog becoming a Prozac-Popping Puppy. Just simply to avoid the dog park no-no’s and teach yourself how to get accustomed to the new world order – of the dog.
This is a must read book -and highly recommended-and special thanks to Mr. Jason Liebman of New York for sending us a copy of the book – it was a great read!!

A warning is being circulated on dog forums everywhere and snopes.com has a listing for cocoa mulch which is highly toxic to pets. If you have gardens and are using this mulch be forewarned that if you pet ingests this mulch it could very likely die.
Cocoa Mulch made from Cocoa Beans
An owner of two young lab mixed puppies bought the cocoa mulch for his garden not knowing of the dangers and it is supposedly sold with the benefit of keeping cats out of your yard.
However their dog calypso was drawn to the mulch because of its chocolaty odor and decided to eat a large amount of it. The next day the dog had seizures and died while on a walk. The autopsy revealed a lethal amount of cocoa beans in the dog’s stomach. In 2007 another dog in Minneapolis died after eating cocoa mulch purchased at a local store.
It is up to Veterinarians, and pet food companies to use their resources to get the word out to pet owners not to buy this product. There are no warnings on the product packaging itself which is sold at most stores like Target, Wal Mart and Home Depot or most gardening stores. The stores themselves do not post warning signs on the product shelves and it is up to pet owners to find this information itself which is highly irresponsible.
Cocoa Mulch is used as a decorative landscaping product and is made of cocoa bean shells which contain:
Toxins called theologize, and a xanthine compound which is similar to caffeine. If your dog or cat or child for that matter eats the mulch due to the enhanced flavor of chocolate -it can lead to convulsions, and death.
Cocoa bean is what chocolate is made of and chocolate is highly toxic to pets.
Cocoa Mulch come in various Brand Names
Look for warning signs of tremors, shaking restlessness and vomiting in your dog especially if you have neighbors that use the mulch product. Do not let your dog out unattended without first removing the substance and while on a walk be careful of neighboring homes that are using cocoa bean mulch.
ALTERNATIVES IN MULCH PRODUCTS:
The alternative decorative mulches also contain resins and oils which are also harmful to your pets. The best tip is to not let your dog near mulched areas of your garden, do not leave your pet unattended. Do not let your dog roam around the neighborhood without supervision. If your dog has ingested any of these substances call the Animal Poison Control Center at: 888-426-4435 or induce vomiting immediately.
If you are using these products consider removing them and replacing with plain old wood chips for mulch. Most mulch is available free from your local city or municipal maintenance department. Or just purchase plain wood chips with no chemical additives.

I wasn’t familiar with the product called Bully Stick or that they were a dog treat so I needed find out what the fuss was about. The bully stick is made from dried muscle, tendons which sounds less repelling but basically they are a chew stick. Bully sticks have been made for many years as a treat for dogs and 100 percent natural at that.
I was recently introduced to the Best Bully Sticks Company which sell bully sticks that are all natural and made from free range Brazilian cattle that graze on non-pesticide grasses. The animals are not fed hormones, or anti-biotics and are basically the “green cattle” that are known to be from Argentina. The sticks may be braided and smoked for extra flavor and available in various lengths for large dogs or smaller dogs.
Bully Sticks are all natural as you will see in this video and they are a good chew for your dog. Today it is hard to find a good treat and chew to exercise your dog’s jaw while helping to keep the teeth clean.
Especially if you want to keep your dog from chewing the furniture or your favorite slippers you should start thinking about bully stick chews. Well I had to test them on my dog and was amazed that Whoopie took a liking to them and started chewing on the stick. The stick does become softer and dissolves easily as time goes by and your dog can spend hours with this chew. Follow the instructions in this video which is very detailed on explaining how to give your dog one of these special treats.
I did not realize that Bully Sticks also contain vitamins such as calcium, magnesium and hormones. The bully stick is a long dried stick which seem hard when you first see them since when they are made they are dried in a high heat. In some parts of the world they are eaten by humans and used for extra stamina for athletes. Rawhide bones you buy in the store can break your dog’s teeth because they are too hard and usually with the smoked bones are full of bacteria.
The Best Buy Bully Sticks are of full of flavor and high quality and if you want to spend a few hours of quite time with your dog -just give them a Bully Stick. It is like giving a bottle of milk to a baby-it is extremely satisfying and beneficial for your dog. Always make sure you supervise your dog when giving them an edible treat of any kind.

A friend sent me this wonderful story about a woman who single handedly has designed the Paradise on Earth shelter all by herself. Her name is Lynea Lattanzio who is the founder of The Cat House on the Kings where she takes in and takes care of a remarkable number of cats and dogs who could use a little help.
The only difference is she does not have them in cages, or pens or fences. It is truly amazing that these beautifully kept cats and dogs who look very healthy are in the great outdoors. The animals can go inside and outside anytime they want, food is plentiful everywhere.
The Cat House on the Kings have rescued all kinds of dogs from different breeds and they do get along with the cats very well. There is no pet odor as you would find in a puppy mill as Lynea has help with the up
Moved there in 1983 Lynea finding herself divorced and looked for more purpose in her life and she discovered one 1992 when she volunteered at a local shelter and bottle fed 15 kittens.
She later that year adopted 96 kittens and cats and ended up with 150 cats. Lynea always felt that cats should be able to climb trees and life their life outside of cages. She took in cats that were slated to be destroyed.
She trained herself to take good care of the animals – to the point of having taking care of 16,000 animals in 16 years and each are adoptable.
This is a non-profit home for cats and dogs where they can experience paradise on earth. Please visit their website listed below and contribute what you can give in the way of support or donations.
We need to get the word out about this tremendous beautiful place which is not just an animal shelter but an animal paradise.

The prestigious Westminster is the Super Bowl of Dog Shows and now has its winner for the 2009 show and it did not fail to please the judges or the audiences. The final group of dogs or Best of Breed included dog breeds such as: a Scottish deerhound named after Tiger Woods the golfer.
Another dog was a Puli which is like my own dog a corded breed that have dreadlocks and are part of the Sheep herding breed. There was also a Scottish terrier in the finalist group picked by the Westminster judges
The Winner is a 10 year old Senior Spaniel named “Stump” and he won the best in Show at the Westminster. Stump is an amazing dog and the oldest dog ever to have won a Westminster Show competition in over 133 years of its history.
Stump in dog years is about 70 years old ! What a trooper he is and to have survived a medical condition in 2004 which almost killed him he is also truly a hero. The other contender in 1999 for “Oldest Westminster Dog Show Winner” is a Papillon who was only 8 years old and won against stiff competition.
You would think that his gate was slower, and his movements due to arthritis but Stump did not show any effects of age related problems and did not slow down one bit thorough out the show’s activities.
Stump had a very shiny coat looked good with his floppy ears flailing in the wind and was as confident as any trooper would be but had his own laid back style won the hearts of many. Stump beat out the big dogs like the giant Schnauzer and the Standard Poodle that were amongst the finalists at the Westminster Dog Show.
Last year we reported that the Beagle named “Uno” which means one in Italian won the 2008 Westminster Competition and now Stump the Spaniel is proud elder statesman of the 2009 Westminster Championship Winner.
You may be confused today with the choices available in pet supplements and vitamins at your local pet store and even more when shopping online.
A good rule on buying supplements for your pet is to buy the very best quality as it is worth the price.
Most dog foods do not contain enough nutrition for your dog even if the advertising claims say new and improved you have to look at ingredients.
Supplementing your pet’s diet is not only saving you money on vet bills but also keeps your dog in a good healthy condition.
Buy from a Reputable Company:
Many companies will just cut corners on quality ingredients and offer substandard vitamins and supplements. But there are companies on line that have longstanding reputations to uphold and we recommend those very highly.
Organic supplement companies use natural ingredients with no chemical additives, colors, fillers, and useless ingredients. A good supplement company will have their own testing laboratories to test their products and even give them to their own pets.
Stick with the Basics:
A good multiple vitamin in one pill is much desired by pet owners since giving a pet a pill is not easy. Vitamin B is extremely helpful as is Vitamin A and D. A good essential fatty acid supplement will help with dry, or itchy skin and coat problems.
Some vitamins are available in liquid form which is easy to administer with a spoon or sprinkled on food.
Natural vs. Synthetic Supplements:
Vitamins that come from natural sources such as plants are far more effective and preferable than those that are imitation or made from chemicals in a lab.
Again quality makes the difference and you would rather pay a few cents more per pill than to buy something that is not effective and not worth the money. Always using natural supplements is the best advice in finding a supplier of the best for your dog.
