The 2009 -Vote for the Obama Portuguese Water Dog is most on people’s mind today, and it is distracting us from our other major issues.
Malia and Sasha’s first dog has been put to a 2009 vote and the votes are coming into blogs frantically as dog lovers are weighing in on which dog should be the Obama’s New First Dog. The Obama’s first pet will be living large in the Whitehouse so the Portuguese water dog fits in very stylishly as Malia and Sasha’s pet.
Obama’s First Dog:
This will most likely be Obama’s First Dog also as there is no record of him actually owning a dog in his political life or previously as a lawyer or community worker. The first dog will either be a Labradoodle or the Portuguese Water dog or Portuguese Water hound as Obama called it a few days ago on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
The Portugal dog comes in as Senator Ted Kennedy’s favorite breed for the Obama first dog in the new Obama Whitehouse. The girls want a dog and it’s a choice between a Portuguese Water Dog and a Labradoodle. Malia Ann has an allergy to pet hair and the Portuguese water dog is practically hypoallergenic, with no shedding problems. That is not to say the dog should not be brushed to keep the coat shiny and healthy every few days as part of grooming good habits for pet care.
Malia and Sasha’s First Dog Tips:
The Portie is a pleasant friendly companion for the girls and they love to play with kids. Similar to the Hungarian sheepdog the Puli, like my dog Whoopie she loves to play, and runs around the park to say hi to all the other dogs. The Puli and Portie are related as they are both from the herding group of dogs, and will make a delightful pal for the Obama girls.
The Portuguese water hound as it is usually called is a beautiful dog which comes in the most common color which is black, or white or liver colored with and without white markings. The dogs usually weigh about 35-55 pounds and grow to 22 inches high with a shiny, curly, short and thick coat.
The Obama first family will have lots of fun with their new Portie and the unconditional love a dog provides in any family.
Malia and Sasha will also be cleaning up after their new Obama first dog and there are new bio-degradable doggie doo-doo bags that they can get for their pet. It is a good habit to get into cleaning up after their dog and even after they return to Chicago and walk the dog the neighbor’s will appreciate it that this is not a barking dog. Portie’s do not bark unless they are guarding someone and they are good family dogs.

Recipe for Chicken or Beef Jerky Treats:

The story begins with the late Carmalita Zamzow, who arrived in Idaho in 1902 at the age of 5, traveling from Missouri in a railroad car with her parents and the family cow. Grandma Z, as she is called, married August Zamzow and they founded Zamzows feed and coal in 1933.
Twenty years later customers found that livestock health was declining even though the feed formulas had not changed. Working with scientists at the University of Idaho, the Zamzows discovered that intensive agriculture was depleting the soil, making grains less nutritious.
The Zamzows began adding natural supplements, always looking at alternatives to animal by-products, antibiotics, chemical preservatives, fumigants, artificial coloring and other additives that have later caused problems in dog health and other areas.
Dynamite turned to multi-level marketing after developing an extraordinary racehorse feed supplement, but finding it hard to train the seasonal staff in its feed stores to explain the benefits that made the formula more expensive than other products.
A saleswoman started calling directly on horse owners with the supplement, which took its name when a customer said, “This is dynamite!” She asked for an agreement that would protect her against introducing the product, then having her customers go around her and buy directly from the company.
A multi-level marketing company was an obvious solution. Distributors have an incentive to understand the product fully, and continue to profit from their efforts in years to come. Products for dog health, as well as horse health, were soon developed. Today Dynamite has more than 4,000 distributors providing horse feed, dog food and other products.
“Our roots are in healthy horse feed,” Novak said. “In fact, our horse supplement was so far ahead of its time that we have recently seen other companies use some of our original feed technology and introduce it as ‘new’ — 20 years after we first introduced it.
“We use chelated minerals, whose chemical composition makes them easier to digest and improves the nutritional value of dog food and all our animal feed. We believe in natural products, and our feed and supplements have stood up to the rigorous scientific scrutiny over the years,” she said.
“We are proud of the fact that we have never done least-cost formulation,” Novak continued. “This common practice in the feed industry involves altering formulas from batch to batch by substituting cheaper ingredients when commodity prices fluctuate. While this practice is legal, we believe it creates an opportunity for error and clearly lowers the quality of the feed. This practice is not in the best interest of the animals. When you buy Dynamite feeds, you can rest assured you will get consistent, high quality products from batch to batch.”
Although Dynamite’s first products were for horses, people were so impressed with the effect on horses that they started giving the supplements to their dogs and cats. So Dynamite added products for dog health and cat health, modifying them for better metabolism in those species.
“Then we found people were taking the supplements themselves,” Novak said. “So we modified the products to be more effective in humans.”
Because of shipping costs for feed, Dynamite historically has focused on providing nutritional supplements, and growth in the Midwest and on the East Coast has lagged behind growth in the West. Production in Iowa is expected to change that.
Current best-selling products include Dynamite Free & Easy, which supports health joint and connective tissues, and is available for dogs, horses and humans. It was developed as the aging population – both human and animals – experiences pain from arthritis and joint stiffness during normal, daily exercise and activities.

As Barack Obama promised his two daughters during the campaign that they will have a dog in the Whitehouse, many people are considering the options the Obama’s should consider to chose the right dog.
Malia who is 10 years old, has an allergy to dogs therefore the Presidential pooch must be hypoallergenic to fit into the Obama household. What a lucky dog it will be to have such a loving family and a big house to accompany the family everywhere they go.
Such breeds as poodles, Bichon Frise are non shedders and are hypoallergenic dogs which would fit in very well. The Maltese, Blue Terrier, Wheaten Terrier, or Schnauzers are all excellent dogs that do very well with people that have allergies because they produce less dander.
However, Malia has her heart set on a Goldendoodle a cross breed between a golden retriever and a standard size poodle. Goldendoodles will have either the retriever fur coat or a poodle like curlier coat with hair about 4 to 7 inches long and should be groomed regularly.
As a hybrid dog Goldendoodles tend to live longer than either breed and will weigh about 45 pounds when fully grown. This breed will be intelligent, and friendly, obedient family dogs that are friendly towards children, other pets and strangers which are all good attributes for living in the Whitehouse. As well Barack will be happy to know that they are easily trained and aim to please their family.
The Goldendoodle is usually found in many different colors such as: cream, chocolate, gray, black, gold or a reddish apricot color and they are just an adorable choice for any family.
Barack mentioned in his speeches after the election that they had wanted to adopt a dog from a animal shelter or rescue center for abandoned dogs which is admirably what most perspective pet owners should check out first.
I am sure that the Obama’s will contact their local animal shelters to see if a dog or puppy is available for adoption as soon as they possibly can and for this and other reasons I am so very glad Obama has been elected the President of the United States.

This is one smart dog as I have seen in a long time. It takes a tremendous amount of intelligence for even a human to operate a skateboard, let alone a four legged dog who has two – too many legs.
The owner of this dog is to be commended for training his/her dog to the point of operating a machine, which allows it to travel on wheels.
The Skateboarding Dog, is a modern miracle in dog training, well its better than chasing a stick.
Finally some one has come up with a tool for nail trimming my dog’s nails. I have struggled with the clippers and unfortunately sometimes harming my dog in the process causing some pain.
The reason you must trim your pets nails is because it helps them walk better and does not spread out their toes in an unnatural manner. To keep your dog’s toes healthy and keep your dog running well the nails should be trimmed regularly.
The regular clippers do not guide you as far as how much to remove safely because generally they crush the nail while cutting through it. This product is gentle and cannot crack or split the nail so its much easier to trim the nail smoothly.
I am sure you hear the tap tap tap on the floor when you dog is walking on a wood or solid floor, that usually is a sign you need to get trimming. When your dog or cat’s nails are too long they get caught and can damage furniture, carpets and floors.
I have ordered this product as quickly as I could and it works fantastically for Whoopie and easier for me to handle than the older style clippers which are just as expensive. Just use it gently let your dog get used to the tool, and follow the instructions.
The proper way to trim your pet’s nails is from the bottom up not the other way around. If your pet’snails are clear you can see the live part which is the pink blood vessels through the nail. Regular clippers will crush the nail and cause bleeding and pain. If this occurs you must use a styptic powder and put tissue paper on it until it stops bleeding and then put a bandage on it.
