Obama Family Picks Portuguese Water Dog as First Dog

Special Presidential Announcement on the First Dog
The Obama First Family have made a wise choice in picking a dog for the Whitehouse and  have narrowed down their choice for First Dog as the Portuguese Water dog breed.

The Portuguese Water dog breed are known to be friendly, good with kids, non-shedding, medium sized, and a lot of fun. This breed is related to the Hungarian Sheepdog breed called the Puli which are wonderful dogs and I have one myself.

This breed is known for loving people, water loving dogs, bravery, intelligence and shiny curly fur which gives them a beautiful rich coat. This dog will greet people visiting the Whitehouse readily and are easily trained and aim to please.

The breed did originate in Portugal and were use to carry messages, and finding lost objects. They are physically well muscled, and resist fatigue as well as good scenting dogs for tracking purposes.

Medium Size Dog Breeds:

The medium size dog breed is great for kids because they are not overwhelming hard to train on a leash, as larger dogs can be for kids new to owning a new dog.

The Portuguese Waterdog stands at 22 inches high when fully grown which is the size of a Cocker Spaniel and yet not too small a breed. It certainly is bigger than George Bush’s dog Barney which was the snappy dog of the Bush Whitehouse.

Michelle Obama stated in People Magazine in her recent interview that the family wants to get the dog at a Rescue or Animal Shelter which should not be too difficult a task.  They are not all very rare as there could be mixed breed Portuguese Water dogs available throughout the states.

I got Whoopie  from a friend who had a farm and too many puppies- and I was happy to get the pup and have never regretted getting this breed relative to the Portuguese Water dog. Mary got Whoopie’s mother Kuba from an animal shelter and it was not that difficult.  Kuba raised her puppies in the kitchen and when they were old enough the pups ventured out to the 17 acre farm with their parents.

Now to pick a name for their new arrival to the Whitehouse after spring break in March is the second task.  The names in contention are:

Frank
Moose
Buster

Sounds like it will be a male dog, but Michelle Obama also said they need to work on the name some before they get the dog. Stay tuned for more news about the Obama First dog and Malia and Sasha welcome to their new first dog into the Whitehouse.
