Recession Dogs Singing for Supper

Dogs are having to prove their worth these days as people are cutting back on treats and the toys for their favorite pals.  It is most likely the lack of time for some dog owners to make their own home made dog biscuits or dog cookies as my dog knows them to be called.  Cookie is a word my dog knows all to well since she was a puppy

It is funny to see that I have to call her 3 times to “come” and only once when I say the word Cookie, her response time is very quick.  But as most dogs its on their time -not yours and by the third time I say “Whoopie come” -she finally lifts herself off her duff and comes slowly to my side.

I try not to say too many words at once since dogs can only comprehend one word at a time. So if your sitting there -having a conversation with your dog and nothing happens it is because they don’t have a clue as to what you are talking about. You have to just say one word at a time.  Start out with the word  “come” and then gradually add the word ” here”.

My dog perks her ears up and tilts her head to the side slightly several times which means she is really trying to understand me.  Most times I think she has ADDH which is  Adult Dog Deficit Hearing.

I am reading the book “ One Nation Under Dog” written by Michael Schaffer and its quite a read filled with the hard core truths about dog ownership and how it has evolved over time.  I will be doing a review -very shortly in the next few posts – so stay tuned folks.

To Your Dog’s Health,

Teri
