Go to a great site called All About Labradors for the best post on the actual facts of the ingredients used in over the counter Pet Flea and tick products that contain pesticides.  This is really important information for all dog owners before you buy- you should know the real truth.

Information that I am about to reveal is vital if you want to keep your dog healthy and avoid it’s untimely death or injury due to the strength of the pesticides in pet products pertaining to flea and tick control.

The Center for Public Integrity a site that I subscribe to reports a large number of dogs are being injured or died as a result of these pesticides and it makes reasonable sense that this information should not be censored or subject to criticism from the manufacturers of this product.  I will not repeat what is in these links but I urge you to click on these links and learn what is not being told to you personally as a pet owner I would want to know everything that composes a product I buy. These days it is what you don’t know and are not being told by the EPA that are supposedly protecting your interests.  If you also go to Natural News there is a plethora of documented product listed that are approved by the FDA, which you know have already been recalled or have deadly side effects for people. Same thing for dogs.

Why Pyrethroid is Deadly:

You really need to explore the strength of the amount of Pyrethroid in Flea and Tick Pet products because this chemical is a pesticide for the mosquitos that carry the West Nile Virus.  Yes that is all well and good but the amount of this chemical is great than the concentrations allowed for humans, and is a whopping 13 percent stronger for dogs.

This means your dog is getting a stronger dose than a human being, and the added chemical Piperonyl Butoxide acts as an agent which keeps it in your dog’s bloodstream even longer. This increases the amount of chemical you are subjecting your dog to which increases the amount of toxicity. If you do not believe me you should get the information on this now at: The EPA and find out what they do not tell you.

What Piperonyl Butoxide does can be found here: Piperonyl Butoxide

Pets are indeed dying because of the inaccurate and dangerous application of pesticides in flea and tick products sold over the counter and  25,000 pets have died already.

Many of these products do not require a prescription from your vet so that consumers are using them without the full knowledge or warnings that a competent vet would or should give you the whole story.  Here is Diane Bromenschenkel’s story of her dog – you may want to read this now.

The Center for Public Integrity is presenting this information so you need to know what you are really buying in pet products.

Since a dog has larger eyes that humans or their ancestors the wolf they are prone to eye problems. It is those big warm puppy eyes that melt your heart that we must take care of to ensure our dogs do not get an eye infection. Some dog breeds have rather long eyelashes that curl into the eye and you must keep them trimmed to avoid irritation and eye infections. Other eye problems include Bacterial Conjunctivitis which is from a foreign body or injury which causes an infection. Some parasites can infect the eye also as there is a parasite worm and a special eye wash for parasites is used to kill the worm infection.

The herb eyebright can be used by making a tea and using it daily as a wash, for it relieves irritated eyes. You can also add it to your dog’s drinking water to be taking internally for it can fight off infections similarly to Echinacea tea.

Also using sea salt in a saline solution by dissolving about 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt in 1/2 cup boiling water. Let this cool and apply with a squeeze from a cotton ball as it can shrink the swelling and cleans out the infection and mucus.

Dog is Itching All Over:

Today and in the summer season it is not uncommon for your dog to itch all over. It is the season of fleas, ticks, mites and other creatures that bite into your dog in the warmer climates and seasons.

Simple Solutions:Use a teaspoon of Brewers Yeast or 1 capsule in tablet form and add into your dog’s food. Some recommend tea tree oil and rubbed over the affected scaly patches will bring relief. Aloe is great for healing raw scratchy skin and dry skin patches which you can apply liberally.

Commercial shampoos use harsh chemicals and can actually aggravate a skin itchy problem. For an all over solution bath your dog in cool water and use baking soda mixed with water and lightly towel dry without rubbing the skin. Your dog can dry in the warm sun naturally without the heat from a hairdryer which actually aggravates the skin.

Infections:

If your dog has insect bites, cuts, wounds or sores use a drop or two of Echinacea which has natural anti-biotic properties.

Dog Heat Exhaustion:

A dog will get overheated in the high summer temperatures and heat exhaustion can be serious to your pet’s health.

Water mixed with an electrolyte solution can restore your dog, cat or reptile’s water content. Failing that, use Gatorade cut with 50 percent water and administer to your dog.

Keep your dog healthy and safe in the summer heat is easily and inexpensive with simple solutions.

The arrival of spring brings air borne allergens which plague us and our dogs comes back into our lives in warmer weather.  Spring also brings mosquitoes that swarm and fleas and these all contribute to an itchy dog.   Unhealthy dog foods contribute to your dog’s immune system failure and cause more itching problems. This was not the case years ago and it seems allergens and pollution increased to a point where everyone’s dog is scratching and this is becoming more of the norm instead of isolated cases.

As we enjoy summer there are some handy tips to keep the itching to a minimum.

Itch Tips:

Bathe your dog for 10 minutes with a non commercial soap, using baking soda, Epsom salts or oatmeal organic shampoo will ease the itch for a day or two and calms the inflammation of the skin.

Do not use hot water use warm water, or rub the skin, and do not use a hairdryer, this will irritate and cause more itching. A light squeeze with a towel will help and air dry outside preferably in some sunlight.

Give your dog some EFA’s ( Essential Fatty Acids) such as Primrose Oil and Fish Oils to keep the skin healthy.

Yeast Infections, Bacterial and Fungal Infections: Yeast infections are a result of environment and inflamed skin, either by diet, air or water environmental toxins affecting your dog.  The dog is most likely on a toxin overload, and waste products are not being eliminated.

Mites:

Mites live and reproduce just under the skin on the fur follicles and cause baldness, and scaly patches developing into mange.

For natural sources to eliminate these problems with no chemicals or commercialized products visit:  All Natural Dog Care Supplies.
